Hello from Canada!
If you are an American browsing our store, there are a few questions you may have which we'd like to answer.
1) Q: Which currency are your prices in?
A: Our prices are based in Canadian Dollars, but you do have the option to view the estimated amount in US Dollars as well as a number of other currencies. When the payment is processed, however, it will be in Canadian Dollars; so if you notice a jump in the prices on the confirmation email it's just the currency difference. Also please note that when the payment is processed, it will use the exchange rate that your credit card company or Paypal uses; meaning that it could be slightly different than the estimate our site supplied.
2) Q: How do you do international shipping?
A: We use UPS, which offers 5-7 business day shipping to the continental USA from Canada, with Flat Rate shipping for orders of $75 CAD or more, and Free Shipping for orders over $150 CAD! Flat Rate and Free shipping are not available for Alaska, Hawaii, and Armed Forces Bases. We will require your street address and phone number for their use.
3) Q: How will the US Government tariffs affect my purchase from l'oiseau fabrics?
A: As you, the customer, are the importer in the transaction, you are responsible for all taxes and duties that apply; this has always been the case, and tariffs are just duties on specific product types from specific locations..
In August 2025, the US Government removed the de minimus exemption for small packages, so all packages are assessed for duties when you order from outside of your country, as determined by the US Government. This is out of our control, we just want to make sure you're aware that these extra fees will be collected by UPS before your package is delivered.
UPS will contact you to let you know that there are duties owing; they can either clear the package for you, or you can have your own broker do this. Please feel free to consult a local expert, as always.
There will also always be processing fees charged by UPS (or your broker), and also by the US government, for the determination, collection and remittance of duties, taxes and tariffs. These processing fees are in addition to any duties, tariffs and taxes that apply. The duties would then be forwarded to the US Government. So nothing on our shop will change, but as long as the current state remains, you will have to pay more when you receive the package. Please note that because the processing fees don't tend to change, small orders can have proportionally very large fees, even if the duty/tariff amount is small.
4) Q: The US Government recently imposed 50% tariffs on Canadian goods. Does this rate apply?
A: Because our fabric is not manufactured in Canada, but rather primarily in Europe and Turkey, the tariff rates on Canada do not apply. The tariff rates on EU/Turkey do, which we understand to be 15% as of September 25th, 2026. These rates are subject to change with little or no notice, as has happened many times over the course of 2025 and 2026.
The tariffs we anticipate you would be assessed would be the 15% rate mentioned above, plus any extra duties the US Government charges for specific fabric types, and any extra taxes your State may assess. The Federal schedule for these rates can be found at the link below, and knit fabrics are declared in Chapter 60. From our experience, and for clarity, the rates in the schedules in the link below do not include country-specific tariff amounts, which would be added to any rate you locate there, as appropriate.

We can provide an estimate of the overall charge, but we have seen instances in the past 2 years where the estimate is very different from the final assessment, due to higher processing fees that our shipping program can not anticipate.
